John Sparks is a 45-year veteran of broadcast news. A producer, writer, and news manager who specialized in political coverage and sports, he crafted the words and produced the stories delivered by many of the familiar faces who have come into your living room on the news broadcasts of WNBC-TV, WFAA-TV (Channel 8 – ABC),
In 1980 he produced the first live local television coverage from a national political convention. He has produced numerous political debates for mayoral, congressional, gubernatoral, and senate races including the 2000 Hillary Clinton-Rick Lazio debate for the U.S. Senate in New York. He has produced live election night coverage in New York and Texas dating back to the 1970's.
His work has been recognized with the George Foster Peabody Award, the Alfred I. duPont-Columbia University Award for Excellence in Broadcast Journalism, and the USC Annenberg Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Broadcast TV Political Journalism.
He has been a full-time faculty member of the Mayborn School of Journalism at the University of North Texas. He was a contributing pundit for the Texas Daily on KTXD-TV in Dallas. He is currently Senior Editor of the Marist Poll in Poughkeepsie, New York.
